Salvation Army Christmas Event Phoenix A Photographers Perspective

I became involved 8 years ago with the Salvation Army Christmas event and I have not been the same since.

The first event was on Thanksgiving that year and I strictly attended as a photojournalist type observer.

I took many great images that day but after watching how involved everyone was, I wanted to do more.

I was invited to be one of ten photographers that would photograph portraits for the poor and needy on Christmas morning just before the Christmas dinner at the Phoenix Civic Center.

I jumped on the opportunity. That first Christmas was a blast but very chaotic.

I invited different family members and friends that were photographers to help pitch in the following year.

We all enjoyed it very much and felt like were giving back to the community in a big way on a very important day.

After a couple of years, I asked the leader of Christmas event if I could be the lead organizer for the portrait photography because I had some ideas on how help making it run smoother with all the hundreds of portraits that need to be taken and the 60 or so photographers and their helpers.

Over the years, we came up with some very helpful techniques that helped eliminate most of the chaos that surrounds an event this size.

This year I decided to take some video and record video interviews with some of the organizers and people helping to make this all work.

I put together a video with music, interviews, photographs and some high-speed images to help explain it all and give people a taste for all that went on that day every year.

I made two versions.

A short one of about two and half minutes with just music and images and longer one of about eight minutes with all the interviews included.

They are fun and positive video’s.

The first video is the short version.

The second video is the long version.

These types of video promo’s I offer to clients when I build a website for them.

They help to explain to prospective clients about who they are and what their business can do for them. Its a very powerful tool.

Not only can they go on their website but onto all their social media as well.
